US S.J.D VS. UK Ph.D

Anyone considering doctoral or post doctoral study in international law should look at spending at least a short time in another country and another jurisdiction. Only then is a truly broad view on international law possible. We forget how narrow the view is which we all have learned under and how influenced it is by the legal culture which interprets international law and politics.

A PhD at Cambridge University is considered by Europeans to be one of the highest academic achievements in the world. The intensity of the research and the standard which is expected is beyond what most universities can offer or expect. On the other hand, if this is a researcher wanting more interaction, some access to teaching experience, some closer supervision and perhaps more guidance on writing articles for publication, it seems the US SJD would be preferable. It's a matter of preference as to style and content.
